Frequently Asked Questions about Miamind

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Within Switzerland and other European countries, Miamind is considered a special prescription and can be prescribed by specialists. You can contact your treating physician, who may refer you to a specialist. You can learn more on the page How do I get Miamind?

Miamind is a customized transcranial neurostimulator designed to treat neurocognitive disorders.

The therapeutic effect of transcranial electrostimulation is being studied for various medical conditions in order to specifically enhance brain activity and improve cognitive performance. This aims to achieve immediate symptomatic relief as well as a long-term treatment of the disease. However, the success of the treatment is highly individual and depends on various factors, which is why Miamind is specifically made for you to provide the best possible therapy based on the latest scientific findings. Your attending physician can give you more information and is happy to discuss a personalized Miamind therapy that suits you.

Typical side effects of transcranial electrical stimulation include mild tingling or itching on the scalp. Additionally, visual effects known as phosphenes may occur, which are caused by stimuli to the eye or the visual cortex. These are comparable to visual perceptions that can be triggered, for example, by rubbing the eyes. However, the effects are only temporary and fade away once the therapy is completed. In rare cases, the therapy may lead to short-term dizziness and/or headaches.

The personalization of Miamind is carried out based on an MRI scan. Only in this way can it be ensured that the device is ideally tailored to your personal situation (anatomy, condition).

The success of the treatment depends on the continuity of the therapy. Therefore, Miamind should be used multiple times a week. Typical treatment sessions occur 3-5 days a week for about half an hour to 1 hour each. However, since each therapy is entirely personalized, no general statements can be made, and the optimal frequency and duration of treatment will be specifically evaluated for you.

For setting up the Miamind Cap with the electrodes, it is advisable to have the support of a second person. If you do not have relatives who can assist you with the change, there may be the possibility of receiving support through an external care service (e.g., SPITEX or similar).
